The history of the Princeton Branch Library began on November 20, 1958, when ground was broken by Mrs. E.R. Bryant, using the same spade used exactly 35 years earlier by Mrs. Henry Ford to break ground for the Main Library (now called Bryant Branch).

The library opened its doors on Sunday, January 17, 1960, with a collection of 6500 books. The public responded enthusiastically to the branch’s opening, and within a matter of days, the shelves looked bare.

A dedication ceremony on Sunday, July 1, 1962 renamed the library the Clara Snow Branch in honor of Miss Clara Snow, a founder of the Dearborn Public Library system and a charter member of the city library commission. Miss Snow had been associated with the public library since 1919 when the Dearborn Garden Club proposed to establish a community library with $200 of its surplus funds and appointed Miss Snow to make a preparatory study for the project.

Snow Branch Library was established with a two-fold promise. Not only would the branch fulfill the community’s desire for access to knowledge and information, but it would also develop into a center for civic, cultural and social enjoyment as well.

Today, Snow Branch Library is still fulfilling its original promise to the community. Currently, a collection of 59,591 items (exclusive of magazines) is maintained with an annual circulation of 227,298. Included in the collection are videocassettes, puppet kits, CDs and books-on-tape.

Throughout the years, Snow Branch has offered a variety of programs for children and adults alike including preschool story hours, summer reading club and various special events. Recent years have seen special programs directed at the young adults in the community with the introduction of the teen read program.
