Longtime employee named
director of Dearborn’s libraries
Maryanne Bartles appointed by Library Commission

Library Director, Maryanne Bartles, is a long-time Dearborn employee and lifetime Dearborn resident.
Beginning her career with Dearborn in 1971 as a library clerk, Bartles held positions in Children’s Services and was later supervisor of the Snow Branch Library.
In 1993, she was named the administrative librarian for technical services, overseeing the upgrade of internal technology, and, importantly, improving public systems for customers. This included implementation of the Dynix software for the online catalog as well as internet access for the public.
In 2002, she was named deputy library director and in 2006, the Library Commission appointed Bartles as Director of Dearborn’s library system, which comprises the Henry Ford Centennial Library and three branches, Bryant, Esper and Snow.
In her career, she also has managed noteworthy improvement projects for the city’s four libraries.
Among her significant achievements are overseeing the collection development initiative, library web page development, intranet development and projects to improve administrative processes within the library and throughout the city.
As library director, she will be working closely with the Library Foundation, created to enhance the library system, such as the renovated Children’s Room at the Henry Ford Centennial Library, and to pursue long-lasting funding options. The Foundation’s efforts will be a complement to the Friends of the Library, which provides funds to the library through monthly book sales.
Bartles holds a master’s in library science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a bachelor’s degree from UM-Dearborn. She is a graduate of Fordson High School and is active with the Divine Child PSO. She and her husband, Rodger, have three children: Daniel, Elizabeth, and Sara.
